Ann Hood and The Treasure Chest

Local Author Ann Hood to launch a

new children's book series set in Newport!

Join us Tuesday, Jan. 24th at 4:30pm
for a reading, Q&A and book signing.

After all the years she's been coming here to introduce her latest book, I think most of you are familiar with one of our favorite local authors - Ann Hood. Her latest project is an eight book series for children and the first two books are coming out this month! We're thrilled that she's launching her tour here at ISLAND BOOKS on Tuesday, January 24th at 4:30pm. We are especially excited about this new series called The Treasure Chest as it is set right here in Newport!

In them, we meet 12 year old twins Felix and Maisie who have just moved with their mother from New York City into the attic apartment of one of our beautiful mansions. Typically curious kids, they explore the mansion at night and stumble upon their great-grandfather's hidden study called The Treasure Chest filled with artifacts from years past. It doesn't take them long to discover the room's mysterious powers - time travel - it can carry them to the places and times associated with relics they've found inside!

In the first book, Angel of the Battlefield, they enter The Treasure Chest and travel back to the Civil War and meet hero Clara Barton as a young girl.

In the second, Little Lion, Felix and Maisie head back to 1772 St. Croix where they meet a young Alexander Hamilton as he is about to embark on his journey to New York.

Though filled with history and mystery, courage and trepidation we also get to know and love Felix and Maisie while we experience the ups and downs of their everyday lives and adventures adjusting to a new home and school. There's something for everyone in these stories - your child will love them and learn from them!

Geared for ages 9-12 these books are being simultaneously published in jacketed hardcover for $15.99 and in paperback with french flaps and deckled edges for $6.99. Lovely little books!

Ann HoodA native Rhode Islander, Ann Hood is the author of the middle grade novel How I Saved My Father's Life (and Ruined Everything Else), as well as many adult novels including The Knitting Circle and The Red Thread.  Her enthusiasm for reading, writing and life in general is so infectious your child will not only want to read these books but to write some themselves!

Watch Ann talking about the new series here.
